The Annals of the Natural History Museum Vienna is an open-access peer-reviewed journal publishes original articles on topics related to the scientific collections of the museum and its current research projects. The focus is on papers relating to anthropology, biosciences, earth sciences, genetics, prehistory, and the history of the museum.

Over the course of history, the journal ran through several different iterations and changed its name a few times. In 1980 the journal was split into three series due to the high number of papers published. Series A was dedicated to earth sciences and humanities, Series B to biosciences and Serie C was a short lived (1980-1988) series of annual reports. With the transition to Pensoft Publishers the series are now united again.
